Ether 2:25

"...Therefore what will ye that I should prepare for you that ye may have light when ye are swallowed up in the depths of the sea?"

Here the Lord is asking the brother of Jared what he wants Him to do. God doesn't just give us answers sometimes. We had to figure things out for ourselves and then ask if it is right. He wants us to use our agency and choose ourselves so we can decide if we want to follow Him.
