Alma 9: 18

"But behold, I say unto you that if ye persist in your wickedness that your days shall not be prolonged in the land..."

Blessings come from righteousness and obedience to the laws.  Thus, as wickedness persists blessings go away.

Alma 8:10

"Nevertheless Alma labored much in the spirit, wrestling with God in mighty prayer, that he would pour out his Spirit upon the people who were in the city; that he would also grant that he might baptize them unto repentance."

Alma is a great example to me.  He was a great missionary and truly cared for the people he taught.  He loved them so much and it really pained him when they would not accept the gospel.  He was very in tune to the Spirit and was guided by it because he heeded all the promptings.

Alma 7: 24

"And see that ye have faith, hope, and charity, and then ye will always abound in good works."

When I do good works I feel good.  I would love to always abound in them, so I need to have faith, hope and charity.

Alma 6:6

"Nevertheless the children of God were commanded that they should gather themselves together oft, and join in fasting and mighty prayer in behalf of the welfare of the souls of those who knew not God."

While praying, these people would think of other people rather than themselves.  This people formerly has a pride problem, and by praying for others this shows that they were truly humbled.

Alma 5:26

"And now behold, I say unto you, my brethren, if ye have experienced a change of heart, and if ye have felt to sing the song of redeeming love, I would ask, can ye feel so now?"

I love Alma chapter 5. It is full of questions to ask yourself and see how you are doing before the Lord.  I especially like this verse because it helps me evaluate my life and see if I am still feeling the Spirit in my life.  Past spiritual experiences are nice but they should not stop.  Testimonies must be continually cultivated in order for them to last.

Alma 4:19

"...that he might pull down, by the word of God, all the pride and craftiness and all the contentions which were among his people. seeing no way that he might reclaim them save it were in bearing down in pure testimony against them."

The antidote of pride is the word of God.  Alma realized that the Church was being infected with pride, so he  dedicated his time to preaching and sharing his testimony in hopes that it would create a change in the people.  Pride harms progress and prevents the spread of charity.
